National Spatial Data Infrastructure Grant

CAGIS received a grant along with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County as partners from the Federal Geographic Data Committee of the U.S. Geological Survey.  The grant seeks to increase the number of GIS professionals trained in the production of metadata used to describe GIS data layers.  In December 2005 a "Train the Trainer" workshop was held where local GIS metadata experts received instruction on how to conduct metadata training classes.  In the spring through fall of 2006 a series of metadata training workshops open to regional GIS professionals will be offered.  In addition, CAGIS' server will be available to participating regional agencies to host metadata records and GIS data layers.
